Muslim Weddings Have Gone Global
July 5, 2007
Muslim weddings are known to have classic ceremonies with pomp and splendor. They are very orthodox in nature, but of late many weddings seem to have gone global. In a wedding the various traditions reflect on the diversity of the Muslim world.
Muslims from various countries and cultures come together in a union for life. A lot of people may confuse the weddings of such people and call every wedding of this kind an Islamic wedding. However this is not true.
For a lot of Muslims, it is the Islamic ceremony that counts and not an official registration of the marriage. Wedding traditions will vary from culture to culture. The most imporatnt part of such wedding is the contract. Gender seperations are very strict in such ceremonies and sometimes, someone else may be standing in the groom’s place.
The contract means both parties will decide how much the bride will receive from the groom in the form of gifts. Some amount of money may be given before the marriage, and then money may be poured in during the marriage too.
